About RD Ranch

Our ranch is located just outside of Campbell Texas, it includes several pasture locations where we run around 300 head of commercial cattle on about 3,000 acres. The house pasture is 80 acres and has our main working pens here. The dogs get to enjoy working at home along with us as well as training and trialing for a variety of performance events such as- Herding, Rally, Dock Diving and Trick.

All of our dogs are dual registered with the breed's private registry Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA) and American Kennel Club (AKC). They are all health tested prior to breeding; ensuring only healthy adults are bred gives us the best possible chance at healthy puppies. Our tests include Genetic Testing as well as being certified with Orthopedic Foundation of Animals (OFA). You can see their test results under each of their profiles.

We love, cherish and appreciate all of the ranches residence. We are a cow calf operation and small hobby Australian Shepherd breeder, therefore our dogs are our family and team members first.

The Australian Shepherd was developed in the 19th century in the American West for an all-purpose ranch and farm dog and valued by stockmen for their trainability and versatility. Here we focus on the purpose of the Australian Shepherd and want keep it alive in our breed. “First and foremost, the Australian Shepherd is a true working stockdog, and anything that detracts from his usefulness as such is undesirable. The most important breed characteristics are overall moderation in size and bone, balance with correct proportions, and sound movement.” ~ ASCA BREED STANDARD

Our Puppy Policies

All of our Australian Shepherds are dual registered, and health tested- this helps ensure a sound mind and body in all of the puppies we produce.  Our puppies are raised with ENS, Puppy Culture, and Avidog protocols; these puppy rearing programs emphasize on socialization, enrichment, life-skills and healthcare. Using these techniques and methods we give our puppies a head-start towards being confident, highly trainable, and well-mannered dogs. We want all of our pups to have the best start in life, to maximize their potential not only as performance / herding dogs but also as well-rounded companions.

All puppies will have tails docked, first vaccines, and wormed bi-weekly.  Each puppy comes with a registration application, 30-day insurance application from AKC, a sample bag of food and a comfort toy to take home to help transition into their new home.

Our puppies are placed on AKC and/or ASCA Limited Registration (pet only) on an alteration agreement. Full registration rights are available to approved homes on a co-own only. We do have a contract in place to protect our puppies that we require all owners to sign prior to leaving with their puppy.

The puppy Selection Process

Our pups are matched to their homes based on temperament of the puppy and goals/needs of the new owner. Aussies come in a variety of colors and markings, and we do take into consideration your gender and color preferences, but it is more important that both you and your pup are compatible with each other. A temperament evaluation is performed with our pups at 7 weeks or older, this provides information such as the pups trainability, focus, and drive. With the information collected in the evaluations and your application, we are better able to assist you in selecting your new puppy. We reserve the right to first pick of every litter.
